PUBLISHER AND END USER NEEDS
Publishers’ Needs
Control illegal software copying
Increase revenues from reduced piracy
Reduce costs for support services and update/patch delivery
Keep product development life cycle as is
Keep honest end-users happy
Fast protection process
Flexible and dynamic licensing
End Users’ Needs
End users do recognize piracy as a problem. They expect their license to be controlled in some manner but the process should not inconvenience them:
Purchasing a software application or a game should include the ability to use it anywhere.
It should also permit lending it to a family member or a friend.
End users also desire easy reinstallation of a program after a hard drive crash or a change to a new computer. End users do not want to EVER have to call customer service. End users also resent saving receipts, product keys, CDs or other items related to the license.
